Match Pewter History
Match Pewter was founded in 1995 by designer David Reiss, who first introduced Italian pewter to the American market. He was schooled at Rhode Island School of Design, and the company is located in Jersey City, NJ. The Match Pewter collection includes more than 400 pieces, and is handmade in Northern Italy using pre-Renaissance methods. The pewter alloy is food safe, lead free, and FDA approved.
In order to be considered pewter, the alloy must contain 91% tin. Match Pewter contains 95% tin, making it better quality than many pewter products on the market. Pieces are stamped with up to four different stamps: "M" for Match, "95" for both the year the company was formed and the percentage of tin content, and the lion emblem which is the company logo. In addition, pieces are often stamped by the factory in Italy which produced the piece.
Quite simply, Match Pewter products are exquisitely designed and gorgeous. With little to no maintenance required, it's easy to understand why this fine tableware is so popular with discerning customers.
